MY MONKEY-animals in labs.

The current edition (May 15) of Madison Wisconsin's weekly paper, the Isthmus, has a story on the cover titled "My Monkey: I was there the day he was born in a Madison research lab. Five years later I checked up on him."The article, by Bill Lueders, discusses the life of a particular monkey, but also gives us a searing view into the world of primate research. It tells us about the big bucks involved and questions the reasons for which many primates lose their lives. It is a terrific article, which I highly recommend you read and forward to all of your contacts. I found the related article in the sidebar headed, "My Monkey: The story of his life" especially powerful.

You'll find the article on line at http://www.thedailypage.com/isthmus/article.php?article=25893

You can comment at the bottom of the page -- please do. And please send a quick letter to the editor appreciative of the enlightening piece and sharing your thoughts on primate research. The paper takes letters to the editor at http://www.thedailypage.com/staff/email.php?id=43

Fabricated pharmaceutical studies...from another list

March 16, 2009  (NaturalNews)

The health community is up in arms over the discovery that a highly-respected and influential clinical researcher, Dr. Scott Reuben, fabricated the data used in over twenty pharmaceutical studies published in peer-reviewed medical journals. Read the full NaturalNews report on this topic here: http://www.naturalnews.com/025833.html

These studies promoted the safety and "benefits" of drugs like Bextra (Pfizer), Vioxx (Merck), Lyrica, Celebrex and Effexor. The lead researcher on these studies, Dr. Scott Reuben, was being paid by Pfizer and Merck, so there's a verified financial connection between this clinical researcher and at least two of the drug companies that benefitted from his fabricated findings.(http://www.nytimes.com/2009/03/11/h...)

Note carefully the names of the medical journals that published Dr.Reuben's fabricated data (see below). These so-called "science journals"claim to be peer-reviewed, which means these studies were approved by multiple scientists who agreed with the findings.

What this scandal reveals is that even peer-reviewed medical journals cannot be trusted to publish truthful, accurate information about pharmaceuticals. In fact, they are just as much a part of the Big Pharma / FDA conspiracy as the pill-pushing researchers who fabricate these studies, in my opinion. The only honest medical science journal I've found is PLoS Medicine (http://medicine.plosjournals.org). Everything else I've seen is just tabloid medicalized fiction sandwiched in between pages of false advertising.

And conventional doctors, for all their self-proclaimed intelligence and scientific skepticism, were universally hoodwinked by this faked data!Apparently the best way to convince doctors that a drug is safe and effective is to just invent whatever story you want and submit it to a medical journal, which then gladly publishes it.If you're looking for a career as a fiction writer, the heck with authoring books sold in the "fiction" section of the local bookstore...just write for medical journals and drug companies! They pay is better and the fiction is even more outrageous! Speaking of fiction and false advertising, here's a list of studies authored or co-authored by Dr. Scott Reuben who admittedly fabricated at least twenty-one of these studies. Dr. Reuben was recently a faculty member at Tufts Medical School and co-founder of the Orthopedic Anesthesia, Pain and Rehabilitation Society, by the way. You can read more about his fraud in Scientific American (http://www.sciam.com/article.cfm?id...).

US animal rights activist joins Irish protest

By Breda Heffernan

Saturday August 19 2006

A CONTROVERSIAL American animal rights campaigner, who supports violence against scientists engaged in animal testing, joined protesters in Ireland yesterday. Dr Gerry Vlasak, a trauma surgeon and one-time animal researcher, said scientists who use laboratory rats and other animals should be stopped "with whatever force is necessary".

He joined other animal rights activists in picketing the Dublin offices of companies such as GlaxoSmithKline, Roche and Bristol Myers Squibb who have contracts with British firm Huntingdon Life Sciences. "It would be best if people who carry out these needless experiments are asked to stop. Unfortunately there are those who continue to torture animals and won't stop. From a moral justification standpoint they should be stopped with whatever force is necessary."I do believe that if people won't stop through reason and education they should be stopped in other ways just like a person battering a child must be stopped by whatever means are necessary," he added.

Dr Vlasky said he was impressed by the level of support for the pickets and said the Irish public would be appalled to hear that Huntingdon kill on average 500 animals a day through testing products from pharmaceuticals to oven cleaner and pesticides."Like most places, animal experimenting is kept behind tightly locked doors. Most people, when they are exposed to the horrors of this testing, are appalled at what it being done behind the steel and glass facade of these offices," he said. Dr Vlasak said he underwent a change of heart after working as an animal researcher during the late 1980s. "I was unconscious to the suffering and scientific ineffectiveness of doing this type of research," the animal rights activist said. - Breda Heffernan

Slaughtered: Trinity College experiments  on  41 beagles

Slaughtered: Trinity College experiments  on  41 beagles

John Downes News Investigations Correspondent Trinity College Dublin has spent over €600,000 in the past three years procuring 41 live beagle dogs, 69 pigs and over 16,000 mice for medical ...

"Isn't man an amazing animal? He kills wildlife - birds, kangaroos, deer, all kinds of cats, coyotes, beavers, groundhogs, mice, foxes and dingoes - by the million in order to protect his domestic animals and their feed. Then he kills domestic animals by the billion and eats them. This in turn kills man by the millions, because eating all those animals leads to degenerative - and fatal - health conditions like heart disease, kidney disease, and cancer. So then man tortures and kills millions more animals to look for cures for these diseases. Elsewhere, millions of other human beings are being killed by hunger and malnutrition because food they could eat is being used to fatten domestic animals. Meanwhile, some people are dying of sad laughter at the absurdity of man, who kills so easily and so violently, and once a year, sends out cards praying for Peace on Earth."
